I use Wordpress in a very similar way. I've been using Wordpress for the blog content for some time, but then created the rest of my site with static html. Moving all my pages to wordpress makes it much easier to edit.

I had to do some remapping with my old pages which I did using .htaccess (as it's on a hosted website and I don't have access to httpd.conf).

I did have to jump through a few hoops to get the search working as I wanted http://www.watkissonline.co.uk/wordpress/?p=2586
